The Baths - Citrusdal

Nog 'n heerlike plek wat iemand aanbeveel het, is The Baths in Citrusdal. Boonop het hulle spesiale aanbiedinge - gaan besoek gerus hulle webwerf.

Natural hot water springs of 43º Celsius are situated only two hours drive from Cape Town on a citrus farm in the scenic Olifants River Valley, near the town of Citrusdal in the Western Cape of South Africa.
Established in 1739 this self-catering resort, with handsome Victorian-style stone buildings, maintains an old world charm in
a scenic, rural setting. Today the resort is run by the great-grandchildren of James McGregor, who bought The Baths on public auction in Clanwilliam in 1903.

Accommodation includes 15 chalets and 12 flats with self-contained kitchens and braai areas. There are 15 well shaded caravan and camping sites with ablution facilities and some with electrical points.
In addition to the hot and cold water swimming pools and hot mineral spring water baths, relaxing pastimes include tennis, trampoline, pool table, small playground for children, hiking trails, mountain biking and bird watching.
MacGregors' Restaurant with its mouthwatering a la carte menu offers an alternative to self-catering or the opportunity to relax with sundowners on the deck.
A shop on site sells self-catering necessities.

Die Blou Nartjie

Vriende van ons het onlangs tydens 'n blommekyk-toer by die Blou Nartjie in Calvinia geslaap. Hulle was baie beïndruk met die lekker ontbyt.

Die Blou Nartjie is the oldest building in Calvinia (circa 1820). The walls are 600 to 900mm thick and have ceilings of five meters high. It was built in Neo Gothic style and has been beautifully restored. The establishment has a restaurant which is fully licensed and has an a' la carte menu which includes traditional foods like "bobotie" and lamb pie. Reservations are compulsory. Breakfast is also served here in the mornings. Die Blou Nartjie Guest House comprises of:

Noudat dit weer blommekyktyd in Namakwaland is, dink ek weer aan die goeie diens wat ons by Springbok Lodge in Springbok gekry het. Kontak hulle gerus as jy in daardie omgewing blyplek soek.

Het julle ook akkommodasie wat julle die toeris kan bied, Susanna? Die rotskuns klink regtig na iets wat bemarkbaar is as toeriste-attraksie.

Gousblom B & B - Kamieskroon

Blommekyktyd in Namakwaland is daar altyd meer toeriste as blyplek, en ons bespreek eerder vooraf slaapplek, sodat ons nie kosbare sonskyntyd moet opffer om blyplek te soek nie - dan wil ons blomme kyk.

In Kamieskroon het ons heerlik geslaap by Gousblom B & B. Die ontbyt veral was uitsonderlik! Hulle bedien ook aandete as jy vooraf bespreek, aangesien daar nie restaurante in die omgewing is nie.

Bergwoning - Clarens

Om in die Clarens omgewing bekostigbare oorslaapplek te kry, was nogal 'n uitdaging tydens ons pas afgelope vakansie. Iemand vertel my toe onlangs van Bergwoning, waar hulle in in Mickey Finn's cottage oorgeslaap het, en baie positiewe terugvoer gegee het! Gaan kyk gerus op hulle webwerf vir meer inligting as jy 'n paar dae in hierdie pragtige omgewing wil gaan uitspan.

Ek het gehoor van julle interessante en baie nodige (myns insiens) webwerf. Ek wil  jou solank van die volgende ou plekkie laat weet. Dis digby Beaufort-Wes. Ons het daar gebly en dit was heerlik. Eenvoudig, maar gerieflike en in die natuur. En ‘n heerlike jaccuzi onder die bome so in die bos op die koop toe.

It can be a challenge to find accommodation in Lesotho, let alone affordable places. In Maseru there are expensive hotels, but anywhere else might be a problem.

We were lucky to find The Palace Hotel, between Maseru and Teyateyaneng (or TY as it is locally known) By the time we got there, I was so glad to see a clean bathroom, I almost burst into tears. No Shell ultra cities with clean restrooms along the roads there!

The rooms were clean and the staff friendly. Communication was a bit difficult though.

Britstown - Mirage Tourist Rooms

We found the Mirage Tourist Rooms in Britstown very basic, but clean. All rooms are not en-suite, but our room was comfortable, with a sweet old church bench in the en-suite bathroom.

At only R120 per person, we were happy with what we got.

Graaff Reinet - Obesa Lodge

Obesa Lodge in Graaff Reinet is 'n kleurvolle plek!

There are B & B's all over town, but the colourful Obesa Lodge gave us excellent value for money. Friendly staff, clean rooms.

(The two gardeners do not only keep the place neat and tidy, they wanted to be part of the picture!)

Aliwal North

Marilyn's B & B is a nice, clean B & B in Aliwal North. The rates as advertised here are a bit outdated*, but we still found them very affordable. We had a clean, spacious room, and friendly service.

Dis altyd lekker om 'n alternatiewe roete as die N1 te ry, baie minder vragmotors en paaie is steeds in goeie toestand.

Onderweg van Gauteng af, het ons in Philippolis by die Groenhuis oornag. 'n Silwerskoon huisie van ons eie, op die rand van die dorp, met 'n plaas gevoel. Philippolis is 'n lekker halfweghuis tussen Gauteng en Kaapstad.
